Solar Charge Controllers

Charge controllers serve two functions (1) charge controllers prevent storage batteries from being overcharged and (2) eliminate any reverse current flow from the batteries back to the solar modules at night. A charge controller required by a particular application is determined primarily by battery voltage and total Photovoltaic (PV) power. Today’s charge controllers are more advance than their predecessors by employing Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT) technology. MPPT does not physically move the PV modules to make them point more directly at the sun, rather it is an electronic system that operates the modules in a manner that can extract more PV power and deliver higher charge current than conventional PWM charge controllers. Under optimal conditions MPPT-designed charge controllers can increase charge current up 30% or more. When looking for a charge controller keep in mind how you can extract the most power for the least cost. Investing in a MPPT controller is one of the way you can do that.
